The Exchange Bar and Restaurant, located in the historic Merchant Quarter just across the Aberdeen harbour, is housed in a charming old church known as the Trinity Chapel of Ease, which has stood since 1794.
Despite the passage of centuries, the building still retains its cir-cular stained-glass windows and elegant staircase, offering an extraordinary insight into its past. This former chapel has housed several businesses and institutions across the years (not least of all as a warehouse for bananas!) and now is home to The Exchange, a unique blend of authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and classic Scottish pub foods. This culinary fusion serves as a testament to the deeply intertwined history between Scotland and Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan cuisine is a vibrant showcase of spices, with each dish richly infused with local flavours like cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves. Central to its culinary culture is the use of aromatic spice blends that enhance the staples of rice and curry, while coconut adds depth and richness. The cuisine reflects the island's diverse heritage, offering a palette of flavours that is both unique and tantalizing. We’ve introduced several classic, authentic dishes such as our Seafood Shovel Platter, that bring a new wave of flavour to Aberdeen’s food scene. Our menu also includes a variety of dishes popular in Scotland, offering a more familiar taste. Importantly, our restaurant caters to a variety of dietary requirements including gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan dishes, ensuring that everyone can enjoy our unique culinary offerings.
Of course, we also pride ourselves on serving various drinks and beverages that suit many tastes.
